Canadian passport photo size: printed 50 × 70 mm
Canada’s printed passport photo is 50 × 70 mm, which is taller than a 35 × 45 mm reference and is not a U.S. 2-inch square. The official printed-photo instructions require a commercial photographer or studio and professional printing. A home-edited export is not a substitute.

Open Canada format reference →Choose the correct application route
The printed instructions cover applications in person or by mail; online renewals have a separate digital-photo route. The printed requirements include two identical, unaltered photographs and crown-to-chin height of 31–36 mm. Follow the official page for the complete photographer and application requirements.
Understand the 591 × 827 pixel reference
The tool converts millimetres using 300 ppi and rounds to whole pixels. This gives approximately 591 × 827. That calculation explains a print layout; it does not satisfy the photographer requirement. For example, resizing a square image to these numbers can distort the person unless proportions are preserved. Our tool crops rather than stretches the portrait.
Bring the official requirements to your photographer
Use the size reference to understand the shape and discuss the requirements with the studio. Canada rejects altered photographs, including background changes. Keep the original and avoid using our portrait background editor for this passport purpose. The tool’s optional face check cannot verify professional printing, natural appearance, required reverse-side information or acceptance.
Common questions
Is Canada’s passport photo the same as a U.S. passport photo?
No. The Canadian printed reference is 50 × 70 mm; the U.S. printed reference is a 2 × 2-inch square.
Can this tool replace a commercial photographer?
No. Canada’s printed passport instructions require a commercial photographer or photo studio. The tool provides a dimensional reference, not that service.
