3. Refine your photo
Portrait / ID background editor
Detailed mode downloads about 40 MB on first use and takes longer. Both modes process photos on your device.Use edited backgrounds only where the recipient allows them. Passport authorities may require the original photo.
Colour changes become visible after background removal. Default exports retain the original background.4. Download
Print at actual size, with scaling off. Sheet pixels correspond to 300 ppi; set physical paper size in your print software. Physical size, file size, composition and acceptance are different checks.
Background segmentation and face-position detection run in this browser. No photo is uploaded, saved to an account or used for identity recognition. The local engines download from DodoHistory on first use (roughly 40 MB for detailed matting or 14 MB for fast mode); processing can take longer on older phones. Clear photo removes it from the editor’s memory.

Start with the recipient’s current rules. Pick a document preset, load a well-lit portrait, frame it, then choose a download format. Background editing is optional and clearly labeled: many passport authorities require unchanged photos.

Can I remove the background for a passport?
Do not assume you can. U.S., UK, Canadian, Australian and Singapore guidance requires unaltered photos or restricts enhancements. Our background editor is for portrait and ID uses where the recipient permits changes. For a passport, start with a photo taken against the correct real backdrop and follow the linked authority’s rules.
Does auto-framing check passport compliance?
No. It estimates a face position to suggest framing. It cannot certify crown-to-chin height, expression, shadows, identity, recency, professional-photographer requirements or acceptance. Review the image and the current official instructions yourself.
Where is my photo processed?
On your device. The segmentation and face-position models are served by DodoHistory and run in your browser; no photo is sent to an image API. Clear the photo when finished. Engine downloads may take a little longer on first use.
Is it free?
Yes. No account or payment is required. Calculations run in your browser. If JavaScript is unavailable, the explanation and source links remain readable, but the interactive controls require it.
