Questions worth exploring
DodoHistory field notes · Sources checked
Do Bengal tigers live in mangrove forests?
Yes. UNESCO identifies the Bengal tiger among the wildlife of the Sundarbans, a landscape of tidal channels, mudflats and mangrove islands. This featured region shows one habitat in which tigers live; it is not their entire geographic range.
UNESCO · Sundarbans mangroves and wildlife ↗Where are the Sundarbans?
They lie on the Bay of Bengal in the delta of the Ganges, Brahmaputra and Meghna rivers. The mangrove landscape crosses the India–Bangladesh border. UNESCO describes protected properties on both sides; a national boundary does not divide the ecosystem into unrelated habitats.
UNESCO · Sundarbans mangroves and wildlife ↗Can tigers swim?
Yes. Smithsonian describes tigers as strong swimmers that enter water to cool off and can cross waterways. Water in a tiger landscape is therefore not simply an empty gap on a habitat map. This is a general tiger behavior, not proof of where a particular animal is today.
Smithsonian National Zoo · Tiger behavior and conservation ↗Why does connected tiger habitat matter?
Habitat destruction and fragmentation are among the threats described by Smithsonian. Protecting a patch of trees alone does not address every pressure: prey, surrounding land use and conflict with people also matter.
